Overview
Research Specialist – Open Rank Research Services Entry to Intermediate Professional.
Location:
CU Anschutz Campus, Aurora, CO. This position is part of the Colorado School of Public Health (Colorado
SPH) Life course Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes (LEAD) Center and the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Study protocols.
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position that reports to the ECHO Study Project Manager.
Responsibilities- Oversee daily operational tasks, including scheduling and conducting in-person and remote study visits.
- Coordinate, obtain, and process biospecimen collections; administer surveys; perform data entry; and conduct quality assurance activities.
- Assist with preparing and mailing biospecimen collections to designated laboratories; coordinate participant travel when needed to support study visits.
- Strict compliance with IRB rules, regulations, and guidance.
- Document, organize, and synthesize data collection procedures as outlined in the manual of operations.
- Perform quality assurance activities including resolution of data edits.
- Assemble and mail data and biospecimen collection kits to study participants.
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics of study visits and program events; support participant engagement through outreach and communication.
- Participate in study-related travel and offsite clinic events as needed.
- Entry Level: A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Intermediate Level: A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution; plus 1 year of professional level experience in a clinical research setting working directly with patients/study participants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with pregnant women, infants and children.
- Working knowledge of epidemiology, environmental health, or chronic diseases (e.g., obesity and diabetes).
- EMT or phlebotomy certification.
- Technical laboratory skills and experience in biospecimen processing.
- Bilingual English and Spanish speaking.
- Interest in learning phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a community that values diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and car insurance as required by CO state law for study visits in participants' homes as needed.
- Ability to work Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday schedules and occasional evenings to support research visits.
- Not eligible for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
