Job Summary:

This faculty position is in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. Allocation of time in this position is 50% for academic responsibilities and 50% for clinical responsibilities. Primary academic responsibilities of this faculty position include participating in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum in both classroom-based and experiential teaching, developing and delivering innovative instructional methods, and scholarly work related to clinical and/or educational activities.

Primary clinical practice responsibilities are to practice as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the University of Colorado (CU) Medicine Internal Medicine (IM) Cherry Creek practice in Denver, Colorado. Patient care responsibilities of this position include providing direct patient care services that focus on chronic disease management using collaborative drug therapy management protocols, supporting primary care teams to ensure high quality medication use, and participating in population health initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Population Health Pharmacy.

Medication management efforts are focused on achieving the Quadruple AIM of improving healthcare quality, reducing healthcare cost, and improving experience for both patients and the healthcare team. The CU IM Cherry Creek clinic is a model site for pharmacy student and pharmacy resident training, and provides opportunities for scholarly work in support of clinical and educational efforts. In addition, this faculty member is expected to provide service to the school and the pharmacy profession and to pursue endeavors that advance professional development as an academician.

Key Responsibilities:

* Function as an interdisciplinary member of the primary care teams to support medication management activities.

* Establish collaborative working relationships with clinic providers and staff to become a valued and contributing team member.

* Work with clinic providers, staff, and administration to develop and implement clinic- and population-level medication interventions targeted to improve quality metrics.

* Work collaboratively with providers, clinic staff, and care managers to reduce adverse drug events and improve medication management and complex or high utilizing patients.

* Work collaboratively with the CU Primary Care Pharmacist Team to improve healthcare quality measures impacted by medication use.

* Educate staff and providers regarding medication management best practices including updates on new medications and clinical guidelines and standards of care, chronic disease state management, medication reconciliation, and others.

* Provide quality teaching services in the School of Pharmacy Doctor of Pharmacy program. Teaching includes course coordination, preparing and presenting lectures and active learning sessions, precepting student Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), evaluating student performance using various assessment methods, and mentoring and advising students.

* Produce scholarly work in support of educational activities and/or clinical practice. Scholarly activity includes writing manuscripts (e.g., research articles, educational innovations, textbook chapters, therapeutic summaries/review articles) which are published in peer-reviewed academic journals. Scholarly work may potentially include writing and successfully obtaining extramural funding to support scholarly activities and conducting research projects.

* Participate in professional service activities such as university or school committee work, participation in professional organizations, and attendance at seminars, conferences, special courses, and scientific meetings.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.
