Job Summary:
The Electron Microscopy Core Facility at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a fee-for-service core that provides routine biological transmission electron microscopy services to a wide range of health-related disciplines, from basic research to translational medicine. The core facility technician will assist the core director with sample preparation and instrument operation. Responsibilities include reagent preparation; biological sample processing and plastic embedding;
thick and thin sectioning; negative staining; operation of a 120 kV transmission electron microscope; maintaining detailed records of all processed specimens; and managing online scheduling, project tracking, and billing through the iLab system.
Over the past few years, the EM Core has seen a growing demand for electron microscopy services, particularly for advanced and emerging EM technologies. The incoming staff member will be an integral part of the core, working closely with the core director to identify new methodologies and instrumentation needed by CU Anschutz investigators, and helping ensure that the core continues to deliver essential services efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Sample preparation for transmission electron microscopy (TEM); fixation, resin embedding, ultrathin sectioning, post staining, immunogold labeling and negative staining.
Operation of the TEM.
Preparation of solutions and chemicals.
User training and support.
Troubleshooting and optimizing laboratory protocols and instrumentation.
Responsible for a clean and organized laboratory.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:
Entry Level:
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Intermediate Level:
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
One (1) year professional level research experience with biological electron microscopy.
Senior Level:
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Two (2) years professional level research experience with biological electron microscopy.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
Certified Electron Microscopy Technologist (CEMT) Certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient to advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
