Clinician – High Acuity Population Focus

C contracted Full-Time (as caseload builds) - 30+ hours per week | Colorado-Based | 1099 Contractor

Nielsen Psychological Services is a female-owned, trauma-centered therapy practice grounded in a Behaviorism-based approach, with a deep commitment to evidence-based care and practical solutions. We provide therapy and psychoeducation services to both the general public and first responder communities across Colorado. All clinicians are expected to work within this model.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate clinician with experience — or a strong interest — in working with first responders, including firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement, dispatchers, military members, and veterans. This role also includes working with adolescents and young adults navigating high-stress or trauma-exposed environments.

This position is ideal for a licensed professional who is a self-starter, organized, and eager to grow. Because of the flexibility of this role, we're looking for someone who is comfortable managing their own workload, prioritizing responsibilities, and staying on top of deadlines without close day-to-day supervision. Our clinicians are encouraged to take initiative, communicate proactively, and raise their hand for new opportunities as they arise.

You will be joining a practice led by Dr. Nielsen, who brings 28 years of experience in crisis response, violence prevention, and trauma-focused therapy. Under her mentorship, clinicians have the opportunity to develop and refine a unique specialty in trauma care. We're looking for someone who values collaboration and is excited to join a team that supports one another, builds on each other's strengths, and continues to expand the impact of our work together.

A core mission of Nielsen Psychological Services is to deliver progressive, consistent, and accessible psychological support to first responders, particularly in rural and mountain communities, while maintaining a sustainable and supportive work environment for our clinicians. We partner with departments (primarily EMS and Fire) to provide ongoing psychological support, therapy services, and psycho educational training to their crews. The psycho educational presentations are a significant part of our work, including Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, Peer Support training, as well as broader mental health education.

Position

Structure

This is a 1099 contracted position within an insurance-based private practice.

The role is designed to work up a caseload into a full-time position. We do require a caseload minimum of 15-clients per week (worked up to over the first few months).

You will primarily provide therapy services to individuals (both adults and adolescents) dealing with trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, grief & loss, and relationship issues.

We require a minimum of 2 days of availability for in-person sessions at our Arvada office.

Travel is periodically required for the work we do with psycho educational trainings and first responder departments. Travel typically requires at most 1-2 days of overnight travel within the state of Colorado - the frequency of these trainings varies per season, but typically occur once or twice a month.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a minimum of 15 individual therapy sessions weekly with adults, families, and/or adolescents.
  • Provide psychoeducation and mental health presentations to small and medium groups (CIT, general wellness, resilience, and related topics).

  • Complete assessments, screenings, and treatment plans as needed.
  • Maintain documentation in a timely manner within the provided EHR.
  • Assist Dr. Nielsen with specialty projects as needed
