Passes instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedures. Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures. Prepares sterile dressings and cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other team members with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping for the next patient. Handles surgical specimens with 100% accuracy. Recognizes and responds immediately to emergency situations appropriately. Performs other duties as assigned.
Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves for surgical procedures. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures, displaying knowledge of procedure and patient positioning. Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed. Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants. Helps in draping sterile field.
Skills, and Abilities
- Interpersonal Skills [Required]
- Completion of validation skills [Required]
- Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field set‑up [Required]
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques [Required]
- Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
- Organization, promoting, and conducting relative In-services on unit [Preferred]
- Education:
Associate [Required] - High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
- Technical/Vocational School [Required]
- Field of Study:
Graduate from school of surgical technology or equivalent (e.g., military training program) - Work Experience:
1+ experience [Preferred] - Additional Information: N/A
