Role Description The Certified Addiction Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Aurora, CO, responsible for providing direct clinical services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders. Day-to-day tasks include conducting intake assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, and delivering psychoeducation on addiction, recovery, and relapse prevention. The specialist maintains accurate and timely documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards, coordinates care with internal team members and external providers, and participates in case reviews and treatment team meetings.

Additional responsibilities may include crisis intervention, advocacy, referral to community resources, and engagement in ongoing professional development to ensure the use of best practices in addiction treatment.

Qualifications

  • Current certification or licensure as an addiction specialist or equivalent credential (e.g., CAS, LAC) in accordance with Colorado regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in substance use assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of individual and group counseling services.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for addiction treatment, including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Ability to maintain thorough clinical documentation, manage caseloads effectively, and comply with confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport, work on multidisciplinary teams, and interact with diverse populations in a nonjudgmental manner.
  • Familiarity with co-occurring mental health conditions, trauma-informed care, and community recovery resources.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic health records systems.
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in residential, outpatient, or community-based addiction treatment settings is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to work on-site in Aurora, CO, with occasional flexibility for evening or weekend hours based on program needs.
