Job Overview

Tier III operations and maintenance (O&M) engineers to support the customer’s various WAN and LAN networks, providing network upgrades and configuration support to the architecture team. Serve as a subject‑matter expert in WAN and LAN technologies and vendors, support intra‑ and inter‑net data communications systems, and provide tiered support for network operations centers (NOC).

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Supervise other network support and client‑server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new network technologies and make recommendations to the network architecture team regarding integration into the existing network.
  • Develop and implement methodologies for analysis, testing, and support of LAN and WAN networks.
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components.
  • Support operations, maintenance activities, and administer networks including hardware, systems software, applications software, and configurations.
  • Monitor the performance of systems and networks.
  • Support routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintain control records.
  • Configure, test hardware, networking software, and operating system software.
  • Prepare technical proposals for presentation to engineering review boards for adding new technologies to the network.
  • Perform upgrades in accordance with existing network architecture.
  • Review user requests for upgrades or additions, assess impact on performance, and advise on the most practical technical approach.
  • Perform long‑term O&M activities, including tier 3 troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Utilize complex network analysis tools to identify and correct problems while maintaining logs and records.
  • Prepare troubleshooting procedures for restoring network performance.
  • Provide fault management for the network and support performance management functions.
  • Respond, isolate, and resolve network troubles; monitor alarms and alerts for network degradation or failure.
  • Execute reporting functions and data input associated with network management.
  • Monitor network security posture, report suspected violations to designated authority.
  • Coordinate with configuration management and implementation teams.
  • Perform operator‑level maintenance on components for network management systems.
  • Analyze network characteristics (traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, throughput); recommend procurement, removals, and modifications.
  • Optimize network topologies and site configurations; plan installations, transitions, and cutovers.
  • Coordinate requirements with users and suppliers.
  • Organize and direct network installations on site surveys.
  • Assess and document current site network configuration and user requirements.
  • Maintain operating systems, communications software, data base packages, compilers, assemblers, and utility programs.
  • Apply software, hardware, and standards IT skills in analysis, specification, development, integration, and acquisition of open systems for Information Management (IM) applications.
  • Ensure systems and applications comply with open systems architecture standards, reference models, and profiles such as the IEEE OSE reference model.
  • Evaluate and recommend COTS applications and methodologies for interoperable, portable, and scalable IT solutions.
Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Currently active TS/SCI security clearance issued by a U.S. Government entity.
  • U.S. Government adjudicated Full‑Scope or Counterintelligence polygraph.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Network Design/Engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team.
  • Layer1 and Layer2 network experience.
  • Network configuration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Brocade, and Foundry OS.
  • Familiarity with Layer3 protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VRRP, HSRP, MPLS, LSP, GRE.
  • Familiarity with Viso and Service Now.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50pounds at times.
