Summary

This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area—responsible for the inventory management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) in the assigned area(s).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement—07/27/2026. Time‑In‑Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS‑7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑5 level; for a GS‑9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑7 level. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate one‑year time‑in‑grade, so an additional SF‑50 will be required.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience GS‑07: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS‑5. Examples include: planning and reviewing inventory processes, conducting market research, analyzing cost‑saving opportunities, preparing funding submissions, managing inventory stock and par levels, and resolving issues.
  • Education: One full year of graduate education or superior academic achievement qualifies for GS‑07.
  • Combination: A combination of specialized experience and post‑high‑school education can also qualify for GS‑07.
  • Specialized Experience GS‑09: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS‑07, with additional responsibilities such as maintaining perpetual inventory accounts, using best‑practice methodologies to evaluate supply system performance, and identifying and rectifying inventory management issues.
  • Education: A master’s degree or equivalent, or two years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree qualifies for GS‑09.
  • Combination: A combination of specialized experience and more than one year of graduate‑level education can qualify for GS‑09.
