Job Overview

The Director of Capital Asset Management and Purchased Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for capital equipment and purchased services, working in close partnership with Supply Chain, Purchasing, end users and Clinical Engineering to advance organizational goals and ensure optimal use of resources. This role shapes long‑term sourcing strategy, drives operational excellence, and strengthens cross‑functional collaboration to support high‑quality, cost‑effective care delivery.

While the position has no direct patient‑care responsibilities, its impact is enterprise‑wide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs strategic sourcing for capital equipment and purchased services, setting multiyear strategy, annual goals, and performance metrics; aligns departmental plans to organizational vision and approves annual work plans developed by team leaders.
  • Assess current systems and data structures for sourcing and materials management; ensures database integrity/expansion to support accurate transactions, robust analytics, and reliable product availability; develops and oversees metrics and reporting tools across the department.
  • Participates in leadership activities; evaluates departmental performance against goals; identifies and implements process and system improvements at the department and enterprise level.
  • Partners with Supply Chain, Category Management, and Clinical Engineering to optimize sourcing workflows, service agreements, parts management, warranties, and equipment selection; leads or chairs capital service line teams as required.
  • Directs receipt, review, and analysis of GPO and related contracts; coordinates action plans with clinical staff; selectively utilizes GPOs to drive cost containment; influences GPO/CHA agendas and priorities at strategic and transactional levels.
  • Manages the strategic sourcing portfolio to optimize contracts and savings; encourages product standardization and recommends inventory optimization, including additions, deletions, and conversions.
  • Directs planning and forecasting for capital asset acquisition, lifecycle management, and service contract strategy; builds cost/benefit analyses for products/services; oversees departmental financial management, budget recommendations, and budget monitoring.
  • Communicates contract status, strategies, and action plans to end users, vendors, and GPO personnel; meets with vendors on conversions and ensures implementation minimizes operational disruption.
  • Reviews and approves internal customer service standards; handles operational and customer service escalations to maintain service quality and operational continuity.
  • Directs staffing, recruitment, onboarding, training, and development; sets annual goals and provides ongoing coaching; manages performance and corrective actions; develops leaders and approves resource plans.
  • Champions enterprise culture and change initiatives to support operational objectives; manages organization wide communications on sourcing strategies, projects, and initiatives; maintains effective cross‑functional relationships.

    Complexity: Work assignment is unstructured and leader is responsible for developing, directing, and managing outcomes and multi‑year strategies to achieve the objectives of the operation. Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is strategic and operational in nature.

    Decision Making: Team member is responsible for managing multiple functions that requires developing and implementing strategies, business plans, and policies; determining required resources; defining and evaluating performance standards; and resolving complex business problems.
