Position: Furnace Deck Operator 1

Job Overview

Furnace Deck Operator I – Pueblo, CO (50 William White Blvd, BLDG 50).

About the Role

An entry‑level operator responsible for furnace process operations, focusing on furnace preparation, load building, furnace reading, and process flow. The position provides on‑the‑job training for higher‑level Furnace Deck Operator II roles.

Shift & Compensation
  • Rotation: 4‑on/4‑off schedule, rotating day/night shift every 2 months.
  • Shift length: 12‑hour shifts (7:00AM–7:00PM; 7:00PM–7:00AM).
  • Base pay: $50,000 per year (equivalent to $20/hr).
  • Shift differential: +$2.75/hr (always active).
  • Built‑in, guaranteed overtime and “free” hours on non‑overtime weeks.
Responsibilities
  • Provide process integrity and maintain quality for all furnace process operations.
  • Perform engineering instruction for department processes, including carbonization, densification, and heat‑treating.
  • Adhere to environmental, health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Identify and eliminate safety hazards, demonstrating behavior‑based safety (BBS).
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing tools (KAS, 5S, TPM) and monitor metrics, taking corrective action when needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED). Vocational/technical education in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience using hand tools and mechanical aptitude.
  • Industrial or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Proficiency operating equipment such as overhead cranes, pneumatic devices, vacuum equipment, fork trucks, hand trucks, optical pyrometers, and hand tools.
  • Problem‑solving ability and creative approach to solutions.
  • Basic mathematics and PC skills.
  • Ability to work a 4‑day/12‑hour shift schedule, including days and nights.
