San Luis Valley Community Outreach Fellow – Colorado Conservation Fellowship Program

The Nature Conservancy’s Colorado Conservation Fellowship is a two‑year, full‑time (35 hours per week) program that will begin in September
2026. The fellowship focuses on conservation, community engagement, stewardship, and building relationships with a diverse group of backgrounds. Three positions are available; this description is for the San Luis Valley Community Outreach Fellow, located at the Zapata Ranch Preserve in Colorado’s San Luis Valley .

The fellow will advance TNC’s local community engagement strategy at the Zapata Ranch Preserve. Responsibilities include coordinating outreach and programming with regional coalitions, community‑based organizations, educational institutions, stewardship groups, youth organizations, and local, state and federal agencies. The fellow will also assist the Preserve Manager and team members in planning and executing community events and managing event logistics.

• Plan, coordinate, and evaluate community outreach and learning events.
• Build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders.
• Assist with volunteer engagement and program material development.
• Track program data, maintain records, and support reporting and administrative processes.
• Manage timelines and logistics for multiple concurrent projects.
• Communicate on behalf of the supervisor with internal and external audiences.
• Serve as a professional presence and exhibit TNC’s values in all interactions.

• Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience (or equivalent combination).
• Experience coordinating multiple simultaneous projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across diverse audiences.
• Team experience on event organizing.
• Ability to stay organized and work independently.
• Proficient in spoken and written English.

• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
• Experience building positive relationships with partners, customers, and stakeholders.
• Background in communications, events, and project coordination.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and prepare reports.
• Experience managing data and generating reports.
• Excellent organizational, customer‑service, and interpersonal skills.
• Cross‑cultural or multicultural experience.

• Valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
• Contributory to a Vehicle Use Agreement, including possible driver‑history review.

The salary range for this U.S. position is $29–$30 per hour. Final compensation will be based on location, qualifications and experience.
