LocationOffice of Adult, Aging and Disability Services – Colorado Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) 180‑bed skilled nursing facility serves Colorado’s veterans and offers long‑term care, short‑term rehab, and a secure memory care neighborhood. It is located on the medical campus with UC Hospital and the Aurora VA Medical Center.

Job OverviewWe are looking for a Nurse Manager/Staffing Development Coordinator/Unit Manager, a clinically competent nurse who assists with managing, coordinating, and evaluating the staff development program in accordance with current federal and state regulations and Fitzsimons policies and procedures. This position provides supervision and direction to nursing staff to ensure quality patient care. As on‑call nurse, the manager has ultimate responsibility for maintaining safe, adequate nursing coverage for one or more residential neighborhoods and may serve as House Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and direct subordinate staff in the delivery of patient care, providing coaching, mentoring, and feedback on clinical practices.
- Manage and evaluate all aspects of the Staff Development program, ensuring alignment with facility and Division strategic goals.
- Design and facilitate in‑service programs and clinical education that provide practical application of nursing theories and protocols.
- Create and implement comprehensive orientation programs for all new employees to ensure seamless integration into the facility.
- Maintain accurate training histories and documentation for systems such as skin, falls, and weight loss to ensure 100% regulatory compliance.
- Review incident reports to identify clinical trends and develop targeted training to address facility‑specific needs.
- Establish and maintain facility‑specific nursing competencies for CNAs, LPNs, and RNs to ensure the highest quality of resident care.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, families, residents, and multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care and facility goals.
- Develop a master training calendar and coordinate state‑directed seminars, conferences, and professional meetings.
- Observe and mentor staff on the floor to verify the correct application of procedures and identify areas for supplemental education.
- Assist in the preparation of the departmental budget and manage resources effectively to support educational initiatives.
- Act as a floor or charge nurse when necessary, providing direct resident care and maintaining a culture of ethics and integrity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current, valid licensure as an RN from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Special Qualifications- RN License and CPR Card.
- CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, Trails check, CAPS.
- Vaccinations as required by state and facility.
- Day, evening, and night shifts to include holidays & weekends as needed.
- Required to obtain a CPR card.
- Possess and maintain a Colorado RN license in good standing.
Former state employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose that information on the application, provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant, and provide the employee number from prior state employment. Failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future state employment with CDHS.
