The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a multi-disciplinary diabetes centeraffiliated with Children's Hospital Colorado as well as the University of Colorado School of Medicine. In the pediatric clinicthe patient population is primarily children with type 1diabetes.

This position will provide diabetes care and education to pediatric patients with a new diagnosis of diabetes as well as for established patients. This diabetes educator will develop,implement, and evaluate care management plans for patients with complex health needs. This nurse educator will also work in the Barbara Davis Center Infusion Center, preparing and administeringdrugs via infusion to patients for early stage and newly diagnosedtype 1 diabetes.

In addition to the clinical program, the Barbara Davis Center has a large basic research program allowing manyongoing educational opportunities.

This Instructor of Clinical Practice position is an at-will faculty appointment. This appointment will involve approximately 100% clinical work. The position serves as a Registered Nurse at the Instructor of Clinical Practice rank.

• Providing direct diabetes care and education to newly diagnosedand established children with diabetes.
• Educate and case manage children who have type 1 diabetes andother causes of hyperglycemia. This includes working with families to achieve age-appropriate diabetes management goals.
• Phone consultations with patients and their families, schoolnurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and physicians in the community assisting with options in resolvingcomplicated inquiries and/or issues related to diabetesmanagement.
• Contribute to ongoing development and improvement ofnursing/educator electronic medical record documentation/data entryprograms.
• Participate as a presenter or collaborator in development of educational materials for conferences and classes conducted by thestaff at the Barbara Davis Center related to diabetesmanagement.
• Participate in professional development of the nursing/diabeteseducator team through attending diabetes related conferences.
  
  Assisting in development of policies and procedures to maintain high standards of existing ADA Accredited Diabetes Program.
• Participate in Clinical Quality Improvement programs through individual and group work on annual clinical care goals.
• Participate in infusion protocol of teplizumab for stage 2 type1 diabetes in the clinical infusion center.

The BDC Pediatric Diabetes Division provides families and patients with an understanding of type 1 diabetes and encourages theirconfidence in its day-to-day management. Present evidence stronglysuggests that consistent blood sugar control greatly diminishes thechances of long-term eye and kidney complications. The Pediatric Clinic offers complete education and support for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. The expectation is that by thetime patients are ready to leave home for college or the workforce,they will have the ability to manage their own blood sugars.

The clinic is certified by the American Diabetes Association, andour nurses, dietitians, nurse practitioners, physician assistantsand social workers are Certified Diabetes Educators. Our pediatricendocrinologists also participate in studies that strive to advanceand improve glucose monitoring and closed-loop technology throughobservational studies and clinical trials at our Center.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

• Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Colorado
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification, or willing to obtain prior to starting employment.

• Priority will be given to someone with experience in childhooddiabetes and with a Certificate in Diabetes Care and Education fromthe National Certification Board.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) would be highly valued but not required.
• Phlebotomy and IV skills (peripheral and PICC) preferred butnot required
