Job Summary

The Bonney Laboratory investigates small vessel disease in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. Our research focuses on the role of perivascular cells in maintaining the integrity and function of brain vascular networks. We aim to understand contributions of perivascular cell types (e.g., fibroblasts and macrophages) in regulating brain vascular dynamics and how alterations in these cells contribute to disease progression. We seek a professional research assistant to support lab management (including maintenance of the mouse colony) and assist with ongoing experiments, including in vivo two-photon microscopy, immunohistochemistry, single-cell transcriptomics, and 3D electron microscopy.

Responsibilities include preparing solutions and samples, operating and maintaining lab instruments, and data collection and analysis. The role offers opportunities to learn cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the pathophysiology of perivascular cells in a collaborative research environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in neuroscience, cardiovascular science, or a related field. Familiarity with techniques such as animal surgery, fluorescence imaging, histology, image analysis, FACS, RNA extraction, and electron microscopy is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cranial window surgeries on mice, monitor post-surgical animals, and support animal husbandry as needed.
  • Conduct in vivo two-photon imaging on mice with cranial windows.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry on post-mortem mouse brain tissue.
  • Establish and analyze electron microscopy datasets on mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Establish and analyze transcriptomic datasets on mouse models of neurodegenerative disease.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in laboratory and research functions.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects, including data collection, analysis, and management of results, samples, documents, and materials.
  • Support analytical testing processes, including sample collection, preparation, documentation, and result communication; perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical steps and evaluate results.
  • Prepare the lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, ensuring safety and cleanliness, and disposing of laboratory materials per guidelines.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process- or unit-related issues.
