Intermediate Level Research Services Professional
Position located in Aurora, CO, on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
Job SummarySupport mRNA translation and RNA surveillance studies using animal models and cell culture. Main tasks include animal work, advanced molecular biology techniques, and general laboratory maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Animal work (20%):
- Tagging and genotyping mice
- Assist with metabolic studies in mice
- Dissect and process mouse tissues for immunohistochemical analysis
- Routine and advanced molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and cell biology techniques (60%):
- Standard bench work (ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR, DNA/RNA purification, protein extraction, western blotting, tissue culture, immunofluorescent staining, confocal microscopy)
- Culture cell lines and primary tissue (islets)
- Differentiate human embryonic stem cells to islet cells
- Optimize advanced techniques: single‑cell sequencing, ribosome profiling, RNA decay, mRNA translation analysis
- Bioinformatics analysis of single‑cell and proteomics datasets
- General lab duties (20%):
- Inventory and order supplies
- Equipment setup, maintenance, and repair
- Manage chemical inventories and waste pickup
- Act as laboratory safety coordinator
- Assist and train junior team members
- Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, genetics or related field.
- One year of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
- Willingness to work with live mice.
- Commute to Aurora, CO, or willingness to relocate.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Two years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
- Experience with mouse models: breeding, identification, genotyping, surgical procedures, tissue collection, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy.
- Proficiency with standard laboratory techniques: biochemical assays, ELISA, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, protein extraction, western blotting.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in basic laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Organized, detail‑oriented, and adept at maintaining accurate laboratory records in electronic notebooks.
- Capability to interpret and troubleshoot complex research protocols.
