Job Summary
The Vazquez‑Torres laboratory at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, is recruiting a motivated postdoctoral fellow. The candidate will focus on how prophages and metabolism facilitate interactions of Salmonella with mammalian hosts. The role involves designing and conducting laboratory experiments, monitoring data, and advancing the research project. The successful applicant will work with the principal investigator to develop the project, submit F and K grant applications, and write manuscripts.

Onsite – the position is located in Aurora, Colorado, and requires the candidate to work on campus.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop and conduct experimental work on Salmonella–host interactions, analyze data, prepare grant proposals, and publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, structural biology, or a closely related field (or in final stages of completion).
- Prior experience with bioinformatics.
- Published work in a peer‑reviewed journal.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.
- Experience in molecular biology.
- Experience with bacterial genetics.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and laboratory protocols.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and collaborators.
NIH standard salary for Postdoctoral positions (FY 2025):
- 0 years of experience: $62,232
- 1 year of experience: $62,652
- 2 years of experience: $63,120
- 3 years of experience: $65,640
- 4 years of experience: $67,824
- 5 years of experience: $70,344
- 6 years of experience: $72,960
- 7 or more years of experience: $75,564
Compensation also includes leave, health plans, and retirement contributions.
