Job Summary:
We are searching for a qualified post-doctoral fellow to join our growing laboratory, whose principal investigator in a physician scientist. The post-doctoral fellow would conduct research focused on the immune mechanism of cholestatic liver disease, particularly the role of macrophages and how polyamines can regulate macrophage function. The expected focus of experiments will include but is not limited to:
1) in vivo experiments (mice) and in vitro (mice and human) experiments testing the ability for polyamines to promote anti-inflammatory macrophage polarization;
2) in vivo and in vitro assays testing the impact of polyamines on macrophage phagocytosis and efferocytosis activity;
3) in vivo experiments testing therapeutic efficacy of polyamines; and
4) transcriptomic analyses (scRNA-seq and spatial) across experiments. The post-doctoral fellow will be supported by an already funded R01. Successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate a strong work ethic, good team communication skills, independent experimental planning, strong scientific writing, and detail-oriented technical and record-keeping skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Research (90%)
o Independently design and perform rigorous scientific experiments
o Develop and validate new laboratory techniques
o Perform transcriptomic data analysis
o Present research at national and internation meetings
o Write and submit high impact scientific manuscripts
o Develop grant-writing skills with potential application for small grants
* Teaching (10%)
o Teach and mentor rotating students, clinical residents/fellows
o Teach/supervise professional research associates

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in City, State.

The Section of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and the Pediatric Liver Center at Children's Hospital Colorado provides multi-disciplinary care for children with gastrointestinal and liver diseases and is an active Clinical Center in multiple national research consortia studying childhood liver and gastrointestinal diseases. The Section's research has been funded by more than 3.5 million dollars per year in grant support including the Pediatric GI T32 NIH NIDDK Funded Training Program.
Children's Hospital Colorado was ranked number 1 for Pediatric Gastroenterology and GI Surgery on the U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospital's Honor Roll. The Pediatric Liver Center and Liver Transplant Programs are embedded within the Section and serve as the primary referral center for liver disease and liver transplant from the Rocky Mountain region. The Pediatric Liver Transplant Program is actively involved in the evaluation of potential candidates for transplantation, peri-transplant care, and post-transplant follow-up and performs approximately 12-20 liver transplants per year and cares for over 100 transplant recipients in long term-follow up.
The center's research activities include basic, clinical, translational and outcomes research in biliary atresia, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, Alagille syndrome, mitochondrial hepatopathies, cystic fibrosis, NAFLD, parenteral nutrition-associated cholestasis, acute liver failure, chronic cholestatic liver diseases, chronic hepatitis B and C infections, other childhood liver diseases and liver transplantation.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
* PhD in relevant scientific area such as Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology
* Experience with fundamental technical skills including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, western blot, real-time PCR, and data analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in flow cytometry sample preparation, data acquisition, and analysis
* Experience in coding and basic transcriptional analyses
* Prior cell culture experience
* Experience in mouse models
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
* Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team
* Detailed record keeping of experiments
* Knowledge of basic statistics and analysis tools
