Job Title:

Research Services Intermediate Professional

Position #

- Requisition #40488

Job Summary:

This exciting role offers a unique platform within the School of Medicine at CU Anschutz to solve challenging biomedical questions using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry. You will join a productive team utilizing bioanalytical methods to investigate complex issues in health and disease. Working under the direction of the Core Manager and Director, you will handle the full experimental lifecycle-from biomolecule extraction and sample preparation of cell cultures and tissues to the application of bioinformatics for data analysis.

This position is designed for professional development, where you will manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high quality control standards. Your day-to-day work involves performing analytical test processes, maintaining sophisticated instrumentation, and collaborating with Principal Investigators (PIs) to communicate findings. This is a highly collaborative position, and successful candidates will have the opportunity for authorship on original manuscripts based on their research contributions.

Key Responsibilities:

* Experimental Execution:
Utilize various laboratory techniques to perform experiments, including biomolecule extraction and the preparation of complex biological samples for mass spectrometry.

* Data Analysis & Bioinformatics:
Acquire and analyze proteomics data using statistical methods, bioinformatics, and data analysis software to evaluate research results.

* Instrumentation & Quality Control:
Manage the maintenance and quality control of technical analytical equipment, including preparing buffers and internal standard solutions.

* Collaboration & Presentation:
Meet with faculty, students, and researchers to present technical results through both oral and written reports.

* Laboratory Operations:
Ensure the lab is prepared for daily operations by ordering supplies, maintaining instruments, software, and computers, and ensuring compliance with safety and cleanliness standards.

* Record Keeping:
Maintain rigorous laboratory research records of all experiments performed, including the management of data archives and research notebooks to be used for publications.

* Protocol Development:
Assist in generating written protocols and developing recommendations to resolve process or unit issues.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:

Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease.

As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are amid an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell's machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.
