Post-Doctoral Fellow
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz is looking for a post-doctoral fellow to join our lab. The fellow will be responsible for driving an independent project studying neurodegeneration using human cells and tissues. Model systems and techniques include using post-mortem brain tissue and human cell lines, as well as long read and single cell sequencing. Experience and/or comfort with these paradigms are a critical component of this role.
The goal of the research project broadly is to better understand essential mechanisms underlying the disorder Fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome, a neurodegenerative disorder associated with cognitive decline, psychiatric co-morbidities, and tremor and ataxia. Our lab affords a collaborative mind-set and opportunities for professional development and growth for those with a variety of career aspirations. Former and current lab members have been highly successful in publishing, obtaining fellowships, and pursuing long-term professional goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing testable hypotheses and conducting molecular biology experiments and analyses including but not limited to high molecular weight DNA extraction & sequencing, RNA expression/studies, single-cell
-omics experiments, in situ studies, and cell culture work - Analyzing sequencing data including long read DNA sequencing, bulk RNA-seq, and single-nucleus RNA/ATAC using R, python, command line interface and high-performance computing clusters
- Thorough documentation and communication of experiments and findings with lab notebook, appropriate version control
- Presentations expected at lab meetings, and at regional and national conferences
