Job Summary:
The Department of Emergency Medicine has an opening for a Senior or Principal Laboratory Research Services Professional (RSP). This individual will be involved in conducting various research studies in a fast paced, translational neuroscience research laboratory setting in conjunction with multiple grants and contracts related to drug discovery and development aimed at treating ischemic and traumatic brain injury.
The position is responsible for the design, execution and management of research projects as well as assist in the preparation of research manuscripts and preparation of presentations at national and international conferences/workshops. Specific ongoing projects the applicant will participate in include the effect of age and gender on brain injury following experiment stroke, mild or moderate/severe TBI and the role of novel therapeutic interventions to enhance functional recovery.
The candidate should have experience in neuroscience or related research field, experience working with animal handling and surgeries.
Experience with molecular, cellular and microscopy is desirable, but not essential. The position will work in a collaborative team environment while being expected to be self-motived investigator who can manage time efficiently. In addition to experimental responsibilities, this position will have responsibilities that include general laboratory management, protocol oversight, database and sample inventory management, oversight of laboratory supplies and inventories, maintaining and documenting compliance with IACUC, and Environmental Health and Safety requirements, overseeing equipment maintenance and certification, corresponding with internal and external collaborators, and conducting research.
The position will require occasional travel for off-site experiments and collaborating research organizations, as well as presenting data at conferences and meetings. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented and have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. This position requires the ability to work full-time in person with flexible hours.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level. Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.
Duties:
* 65% - Laboratory research activities
* 5% - Assay development/troubleshooting
* 5% - IACUC protocol development
* 5% - Data analysis and management
* 10% - Procurement/inventory
* 10% - Budget management
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
* Perform small animal surgeries
* Perform molecular, histological and microscopy analyses.
* Perform behavioral assessments
* Data analysis
* Participate in all lab meetings
* Oversee daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
* Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
* Assist team members, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives
* Assist and train junior team members
