At Edgewise, we are focused on advancing novel, muscle-targeted therapeutics for serious cardiovascular and cardiometabolic conditions with significant unmet need. Leveraging our expertise in muscle biology and small molecule drug development, we are building a cardiovascular pipeline that includes programs for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart failure and other serious cardiovascular diseases.
We’re building a passionate, experienced team committed to tackling complex scientific and clinical challenges and delivering meaningful outcomes for patients. If you’re looking to do work that matters, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Position:We are seeking an Associate Scientist/Scientist Cardiovascular Pharmacology with experience characterizing animal models of cardiovascular disease and response to intervention. The successful candidate will be able to apply their knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology to characterize small molecules and support drug discovery programs. This is a lab-based position (~70%) primarily performing hands-on in vivo studies in rodents, with remaining time spent analyzing data, presenting results to project teams, and serving as a representative on cross-functional teams.
This role is based in Boulder, CO.
Job Duties and Functions:
- Perform in vivo studies to characterize and develop models of disease relevant to cardiovascular research programs.
- Characterize pharmacologic responses to intervention and support evaluation of drug candidates.
- Apply scientific and technical knowledge to conduct experiments and studies in the area of cardiovascular pharmacology.
- Lead studies through completion, including data collection, analysis, and reporting of results.
- Document, critically review, and interpret experimental data in a timely manner.
- Modify experimental approaches as necessary based on study findings and scientific rationale.
- Identify opportunities for protocol improvement and contribute to the development of new experimental approaches and technologies.
- Adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior experience and knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology.
- Prepare scientific and technical documentation, including study reports, protocols, and related research documents.
- Present experimental results in small, multidisciplinary meetings, conveying clear and concise key messages.
- Represent the department or function on program, project, or sub-teams as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional research teams by providing timely and actionable study results.
- Apply a thorough understanding of cardiovascular physiology, pharmacology, and related disciplines to support drug discovery and development activities.
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree required, PHD Preferred (Pharmacology, Physiology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline).
- 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience in cardiovascular pharmacology, physiology, or related research preferred.
- Hands-on experience handling and performing basic procedures and manipulations in rodent models.
- Experience performing rodent echocardiography and interpreting echo cardiographic parameters.
- Experience performing invasive hemodynamic assessments is preferred.
- Experience with cardiovascular disease models and pharmacologic intervention studies preferred.
- Understanding of cardiovascular physiology, pharmacology, and disease pathophysiology.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting in vivo pharmacology data.
- Proficiency with electronic data capture systems and data analysis software preferred.
- Strong scientific documentation skills, including maintaining accurate laboratory records and experimental reports.
