Job SummaryThe Assistant Manager, Store, will manage the daily operations of a retail store. In the Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager acts as the Retail Store Manager, supporting the achievement of financial goals and ensuring the store’s success.
Essential Functions – Store Assistant Manager- Work closely with the Retail Store Manager to achieve goals, increase sales and donations.
- Recommend changes to operational procedures to maximize expense‑to‑revenue ratios.
- Promote and enforce safety standards, including OSHA and CARF compliance, and serve as Safety Representative on the operations and sales safety sub‑committee.
- Obtain and maintain certification on pallet jack, walkie stacker, forklift, hand dolly, or other equipment; train staff on safety and operations.
- Analyze competition and retail trends to suggest appropriate actions.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the point‑of‑sale (POS) system.
- Empower, lead, and manage retail store staff to ensure safety, productivity, and success.
- Oversee daily operations of all functional areas, including sales floor, front store, donation store, production areas, product movement, and storage facilities.
- Responsible for hiring, performance management, goal setting, and termination recommendations for at least one department.
- Stay current with Goodwill policies, Employee Handbook, safety standards, and supplemental policies.
- Partner with the Retail Store Manager to conduct employee training and knowledge transfer meetings.
- Be on call for alarm notifications after hours.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Provide coverage for unexpected or planned absences, facilitate growth and training, collaborate with other managers, and contribute to business‑development initiatives.
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred.
Experience
- At least 2 years supervising retail operations (or similar) with accountability for business, operations, and financial results.
Other Requirements
- Proficiency with office equipment and software (Word, Excel, UKG).
- Ability to manage corporate email and calendar (Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability.
- Works well under deadline pressure.
- Understanding of marketing and retail principles.
- Understanding of production processes, quality control, and staff empowerment.
- Ability to analyze statistical information and financial statements.
- Adaptability, accountability, and decision‑making under changing circumstances.
- Training, development, and recognition of talent and leadership.
- Effective verbal and written communication; cross‑level communication.
- Empathy for people with disabilities and disadvantages.
- Ability to obtain walkie stacker and/or forklift certification.
- Willingness to move to other stores within assigned region.
- Ability to work varied schedules, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Preferred ability to drive for company business.
