Senior Sales Engineer (SSE)

The Senior Sales Engineer is a technical sales support position responsible for arranging pre‑sales engagement to current and prospective clients. The role requires a strong technical leader who understands how their decisions impact and influence the customer’s bottom line while driving revenue for Commvault.

What you’ll do
  • Work with the account team to formulate and produce territory plans, account strategies, and sales plans, including engaging specialist resources as directed by the Sales and SE Manager.
  • Identify and build positive relationships with external partners and internal departments (sales, support, business units, product management, marketing, development) to ensure success during sales campaigns.
  • Call senior‑level IT leadership to qualify and understand key technical, financial, operational, and business issues that can be addressed with Commvault products.
  • Establish relationships with technical decision makers within end‑user accounts and develop detailed, executable Technical Account Plans for focus targets and existing customers using Commvault Target Account Selling methodology.
  • Translate pre‑sales discovery into concise messages, outlining technical, business, operational, and financial inefficiencies that Commvault addresses.
  • Collaborate on the creation and presentation of cases to business sponsors (C‑level executives, technical partners, etc.) in support of the Commvault solution.
  • Demonstrate Commvault products through presentations, customer solutions, white‑board demos, pilots, and proof‑of‑concepts.
  • Participate in all Sales and regional meetings, QBRs, and provide technical leadership on topics such as field marketing and qualification.
  • Provide technical expertise and enablement support for channel and alliance partners as needed.
  • Continuously develop technical and market expertise through training, certifications, and conferences.
  • Keep senior management and relevant internal groups informed of key issues and changes that may impact business results via reviews and  documentation.
  • Assist with product or process improvements and participate in innovative solution development.
Who you are
  • 5+ years in the software or storage industry; 3+ years of proven pre‑sales engineering experience.
  • Experience delivering, presenting, and selling enterprise/commercial solutions to clients or territories.
  • Strong competitive knowledge and experience selling, conducting proofs of concept, and architecting data management solutions (backup, recovery, migration, replication, compliance, SRM).
  • Ability to thrive in a rapid‑growth environment with evolving priorities.
  • Experience establishing teams of specialists to support sales cycles to successful outcomes.
  • Basic knowledge of common software licensing practices (cloud, perpetual, term, maintenance).
  • Proficiency with at least one major open‑systems OS, hypervisor, or cloud platform.
  • Exposure to enterprise applications such as SAP, Oracle, Exchange, DB2, SharePoint.
  • Solid knowledge of infrastructure technologies (storage, servers, networking, cloud, hyper‑convergence).
  • Consultative selling skills that pair product expertise with business and industry foresight; experience with case creation and TCO modeling is a plus.
  • Track record of penetrating and managing at least three major accounts (Fortune 500–1000).
  • Organized and procedural use of tools such as
  • BS or MS in Computer Science/engineering or related field preferred.
  • Experience with sales methodologies (MEDDIC, TAS, SPIN, Solution Selling, Challenger).
  • Ability to work remotely and autonomously.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Salary Range

$93,500 - $230,000 USD
