Position OverviewA customer service based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park. This role supports the protection of natural resources from non-native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water, irrigation and all water‑related outdoor recreation in Colorado.
Responsibilities- Support the State Invasive Species Program through watercraft inspection and decontamination at various locations throughout Colorado.
- Inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, either independently or in pairs, focusing on invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
- Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species topics, distributing printed material to visitors.
- Report directly to the Program Office; receive training for boat inspection.
- When not needed on watercraft, assist the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists with quality‑control assessment, inventory management, editing technical reports, distribution of supplies, and data entry.
- Travel regularly, including overnight stays, and work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Good driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.
- Ability to drive long hours and remain alert.
- Willingness to be flexible with weekday and weekend work schedules.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
- Knowledge of boat and trailer anatomy; ability to trailer boats and decontamination units on highways and mountain roads.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
Hourly wage of $19.50 per hour. This is a temporary, 9‑month or less position. Continuous training will be provided.
