Jacobs is looking for on-call archaeologists to work on a variety of projects throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and other surrounding western states. This position involves providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to renewable energy, government, military, transportation, and commercial clients.

The archaeologist career path provides the opportunity to work on projects that require compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Native American Graves Repatriation and Protection Act (NAGPRA), and state regulations. All work will be conducted under the guidance of senior cultural resources staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to clients in renewable energy, government, military, transportation, and commercial sectors.
  • Assist with compliance under NHPA, ARPA, NEPA, NAGPRA, and state regulations.
  • Conduct archaeological surveys, construction monitoring, mapping, data recording, site documentation, and photography.
  • Monitor archaeological conditions on-site and document findings; work under the guidance of senior cultural resources staff.
  • Collaborate with tribal monitors and other project stakeholders; travel frequently for fieldwork.
  • Demonstrate strong writing and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and technological proficiency (including GIS and relational databases).
  • Work independently in field and office, and adapt to varying field conditions and schedules.
Qualifications
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology/CRM.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of all phases of professional archaeological field work experience.
  • Experience in construction monitoring and collaborating with tribal monitors.
  • Knowledge of historic preservation laws and policies, including NEPA, NHPA, ARPA, and NAGPRA.
  • Familiarity with state regulations and cultural resources policies for Colorado, Wyoming or adjacent states.
  • Experience using GPS technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to walk for long periods over unfamiliar terrain, excavate shovel tests and test units, screen soil, and carry field equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently and for long periods, as needed.
  • Motivation and ability to work safely with minimal supervision.
  • Experience and comfort in working independently in the field and office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience in conducting research, literature reviews, and cartographic reviews.
  • Experience writing sections of compliance reports, completing site forms, or artifact analysis.
  • Experience working in a CRM environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be responsive to both internal and external clients.

The base salary range for this position is $61,700.00 to $; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Additional Information

Frequent travel is expected for the position. It is imperative that candidates be able to work 8-to-10-hour days in a variety of conditions and understand that there could be frequent stays away from the office.
