Job Summary:
This is a critical job focusing on multiple sclerosis neuropathology. It offers a unique opportunity to learn the pathological role of IgG, complements, and the pathology associated with MS and other CNS disorders. The applicants will expand their experience and knowledge of innate immunity, complement activation, and the intricate interactions of neurons and glial cells.
Key Responsibilities:
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, willing to work flexible hours, and willing to work as part of a team. Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping. Must be willing to learn and use new processes, tools, and equipment. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills required. Neurosurgery at CU is a dynamic, rapidly growing educational enterprise, and we are one of the largest Departments of Neurosurgery in the western United States. Currently the Department encompasses 4 teaching institutions:
University Hospital, Colorado Children's Hospital, the Colorado VA Medical Center and Denver Health and Hospitals, with all but the latter now located on the new 225 acre Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. The Anschutz Medical Campus, is a truly state-of-the-art center for education, clinical programs, research and innovation Our current faculty includes 25 Neurosurgeons, 3 Neuro-critical care Intensivists, an ever-growing division of Interventional Neuro-radiology, 5 Neuropsychologists and 4 full-time dedicated research PH.D.'s.
The neurosurgery department at CU Anschutz is a thriving research-centered department that promotes translational research at an international level. The research faculty in Neurosurgery are research-focused, welcoming, and work with the community to inform about severe neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis One (1) year professional level research experience
Experience with mammalian cell culture A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory Experience working with Flow cytometry and confocal microscopy
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution Outstanding customer service skills Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information Strong enthusiasm for science, with the possibility to gain authorship on scientific manuscripts and present data to Apply:
