Security Officer I & II

Job Summary:
Provide campus security to ensure the safety and well‑being of all individuals within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
Work Location:
Onsite, Aurora, CO.
- Patrol the exterior and interior jurisdiction of the campus by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot.
- Inspect and secure physical barriers, gates, fences, and locks to ensure proper functioning.
- Provide assistance and escorts to faculty, staff, and students after dark.
- Act swiftly in emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, or security breaches; operate fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers; coordinate with local authorities and emergency services.
- Resolve conflicts and enforce parking violations, writing citations as needed.
- Assist with traffic control and emergency response.
- Prepare detailed incident reports for non‑criminal incidents, property crimes, and non‑injury accidents.
- Utilize security systems for safety, crime awareness, and deterrence.
- Manage crowds and maintain order during events or gatherings using crowd control techniques and equipment.
- Conduct risk assessments of fire hazards, physical environment, and crime opportunities.
- Administer basic first aid and respond to medical emergencies.
- Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices; ensure compliance with security‑related legal requirements.
- One (1) year of experience in a security officer position or a similar position. (Security Officer II may require two years.)
- Current State of Colorado Driver’s License.
- Basic first aid, CPR, and knowledge of hazardous materials and chemical weapons.
- Basic computer and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Ability to monitor surroundings and recognize irregularities.
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills under pressure.
- Excellent oral and written communication; customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work 24/7 coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience as a security officer in higher education.
- CU Systems experience.
- Knowledge of police department background check process.
- Availability for shift differentials and overtime.
