Patrolling and Call Responses: Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e., patrol car, bicycle) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department. Design and lead campus safety patrol initiatives. Notify supervisory and management staff promptly of security breaches or risks and contact local law enforcement as appropriate.
Assume control of campus situations until emergency responders arrive.
Investigations and Reporting: Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition. Conduct investigations of security matters. Write complete, accurate and timely reports, including logs, using computer-aided reporting systems. Report to supervisors for inclusion in federally mandated Clery reports and work with law enforcement to preserve evidence.
Enforcement: Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic, enforce College rules and regulations, challenge trespassers and loiterers, issue campus parking tickets, and address conflicts or confrontations. When necessary, detain individuals at the discretion of the Department for a short period using approved methods. Assist with crowd control as needed.
Emergency Responses: Assist in evacuating faculty, staff and students during emergencies. Provide emergency response and first aid. Serve as initial responder for tornadoes, floods, bomb threats, lockdowns, etc., following proper procedures. Issue timely warnings and emergency notifications. Maintain required certifications as required by the College or state law.
Equipment Maintenance and Use: Maintain the proper care and maintenance of all College-owned or leased equipment, including duty vehicles and security tools (batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, radio). Maintain proficiency with campus safety systems and complete all required certifications.
Minimum Qualifications• Three (3) years of work experience in security, campus safety or law enforcement as the primary function of the job (part‑time experience prorated).
• Three (3) years of relevant experience may be substituted with College, university or non‑correspondence business school coursework in Law Enforcement or a similar field; transcript verifying the required credits must be provided prior to the deadline.
• Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license to operate campus vehicles.
• Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six months of hire if not already certified.
• Must complete a post‑offer, pre‑employment background check, physical, agility and drug test.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must be trained and able to use special equipment (taser, pepper spray, handcuffs, ASIST training) within six months of appointment and provide documentation.
• Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude or misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify a candidate. Conviction information must be disclosed to Human Resources.
