GJC-000977, Security Department

Work hours for this position will be Tuesday through Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Occasional shifts outside of the regular shift may be required to meet department needs.

Shift Differentials
  • Regular rate applies when work hours fall between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (no shift differential).
  • Second shift differential rate (7.5%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  • Third shift differential rate (14%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
  • Weekend differential rate (20%) applies when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift.
Responsibilities Patrolling and Call Responses

Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e., patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone, and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department. Design and lead campus safety patrol initiatives. Notify security supervisory and management personnel promptly of security breaches or potentially risky situations, and contact local law enforcement as appropriate.

Assume control of situations on campus until emergency responders arrive.

Investigations and Reporting

Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition. Conduct investigations of security matters on campus. Write complete, accurate, and timely reports to record campus incidents, document investigations, and maintain logs of campus activity. Report and track incidents for the supervisor to include in federal Clery reports. Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.

Enforcement

Control the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus property. Enforce all College rules and regulations on College properties owned or leased as specified in Standard Operating Procedures. Challenge trespassers, loiterers, errant vehicle operators and others who create a safety and security risk. In situations where an incident may be criminal in nature and poses an immediate threat, authorized personnel may temporarily detain individuals involved using appropriate and approved methods.

Assist with crowd control, issue campus parking tickets, direct individuals in unauthorized areas to leave campus or call law enforcement.

Emergency Responses

Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies. Provide emergency response and first aid as needed. Serve as initial responder for tornadoes, floods, bomb threats, lockdowns, and other emergencies, following proper procedures for lockdown, secure, evacuate, shelter, and hold. Issue timely warnings and emergency notifications during emergencies. Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas as required by the College and federal or state law or regulation.

Maintenance and Use

Exercise proper care and maintenance of all College‑owned or leased equipment including vehicles assigned to duty. Maintain proficiency in the use of authorized protection tools (batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, radio, etc.). Maintain in‑depth knowledge and proficiency with campus safety and security systems. Successfully complete and maintain certifications and recertifications in all applicable areas as determined by the College and state law.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only: Three (3) years of work experience in security, campus safety or law enforcement as the primary function of the job. Provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in your application.
