Conduct security patrols of campus and all college buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department. Notify supervisory personnel in a timely manner of breaches of security and potential security risks.
Provide safety escorts to and from vehicles and college facilities upon request. Prevent vandalism and theft of school property and disruptions caused by student conflict. Physically inspect buildings and check doors, windows, entries and exits for safety. Respond to alarms and assist fire and police departments. Provide customer service by enthusiastically providing information and services.
Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition. Conduct investigations of security matters on campus. Write complete, accurate and timely reports to record campus incidents and document investigations, maintaining logs related to activity on campus. Utilize computer-aided reporting systems for incident documentation and comply with Clery reporting requirements. Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in criminal incidents.
EnforcementControl the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus property. Enforce all college rules and regulations as specified in Standard Operating Procedures. Challenge trespassers, loiterers, and errant vehicle operators, and other individuals who create a safety and security risk. Temporarily detain and restrain individuals when there is an incident that may be criminal in nature using baton techniques, locks, grips, or restraining devices until law enforcement arrives.
Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations. Assist with crowd control as needed. Issue campus parking tickets and trespass notifications.
Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies. Provide first aid/CPR/AED as needed. Serve as initial responder during emergency situations such as tornadoes, floods, bomb threats, lockdowns, etc., following proper procedures. Issue timely warnings and emergency notifications during emergencies. Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas as required by the college and federal or state law.
Equipment Maintenance and UseExercise proper care and maintenance of all college-owned or leased equipment, including vehicles assigned for duty. Maintain a high level of proficiency in the proper use of authorized protection tools (batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, radio, etc.). Maintain in-depth knowledge of campus safety and security systems. Successfully complete and maintain mandatory certifications.
Campus Security AuthorityCampus Security Authorities are obligated by law to report crimes that pose an ongoing threat to the community immediately to the Police Department.
