Job Title: Plumber Apprentice

Position:  - Requisition: 38917

Job Summary: Provide maintenance, repair, and operations services for all University of Colorado buildings at Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) on a twenty-four-hour basis. Responsible for providing utility and facility support for the research and learning facility in a manner that promotes the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus' mission of health care, education, and research.

Responsibilities
  • Attend plumbing trade school and maintain adequate attendance with a 2.5 GPA.
  • Learn to design and install various plumbing and mechanical systems, perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plumbing, mechanical, fire protection, infrastructure, HVAC systems, as well as pump repairs, water treatment for closed loops, utility locates, and backflow prevention.
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, contractors, and other trades to ensure proper installation and operation of facility systems.

On-site – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in building maintenance, repair and operations services, construction, grounds, or other mechanical field
  • Substitution:
    Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment
  • The selected candidate must be willing and able to attend Plumbing Trades School while maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • The selected candidate must register with the Department of Regulator Agencies (DORA) and the Divisions of Professions and Occupations.
  • The selected candidate must enroll with the Construction Industry Training Council and complete required classroom training (144 hours per year) to meet federal requirements.
  • Apprentices must register with DORA as an individual and may need to provide apprentice numbers if previously registered.
  • Apprentices are given a single number to carry until they pass an exam for another license.
  • Commitment: extend 2 years of service in Facilities Management after completing the journeyman certificate.
  • Tuition reimbursement is required if training is not completed or if the employee leaves University prior to finishing the extended service.
  • Must be a resident of Colorado at the time of application and possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must pass criminal background check, motor vehicle checks, and drug test; subject to drug and alcohol testing per departmental policies.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach; lift up to 10 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds frequently; work around moving equipment, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions; work around chemicals/solvents and potentially hazardous materials; work alone and on rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Note:

This position is designated as essential personnel and may require after-hours contact, pager usage, and occasional extended hours to cover emergencies.
