Position Title: Diesel Mechanic
Department: Maintenance / Fleet Services
Reports To: Fleet Supervisor / Maintenance Manager
Location: Aurora, CO
Position SummaryAs a Diesel Mechanic
, you will diagnose, repair, and perform scheduled maintenance on diesel‑powered equipment and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will work with a wide range of heavy‑duty equipment, including trucks, loaders, excavators, generators, and other diesel‑powered machinery used in construction, agriculture, transportation, or industrial settings.
- Inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair diesel engines and related systems including fuel, hydraulic, electrical, braking, and cooling systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, tune‑ups, and safety checks on a fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Repair or replace defective parts such as bearings, valves, injectors, pistons, pumps, and turbochargers.
- Use computerized diagnostic tools, gauges, and hand tools to troubleshoot engine failures and system malfunctions.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and alignment adjustments when required.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, shop protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Communicate with fleet managers and operators to determine issues and recommend solutions.
- Participate in emergency repair calls as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data.
- Proficiency with diagnostic computer software and standard mechanic tools.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
- Ability to lift heavy parts, work in varied environments, and adhere to safety procedures.
- ASE certification (or equivalent).
- Experience with fleet maintenance management systems.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Excellent problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Work performed in a shop environment as well as outdoors.
Regular use of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting devices.
May be required to work evenings or weekends as workload demands.
