Construction and Repair division responsible for repair and maintenance of over 1500 miles of pipeline. Core functions include emergency water and service line repairs, fire hydrant, valve and vault rehabilitation or replacement, sewer repairs and water main replacement. Overtime requirement significant; average 250 hours per year.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Loads and unloads tools
- Repair and replacement activities
- Perform routine equipment maintenance
- Assist work crews in installation, repair, testing and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, stormwater lines, channels and structures, large water meters, valves, fire hydrants, and other equipment
- Operate hand tools, shovel, jackhammer, power tools
- Assist with on‑call shifts and snow removal activities
- Service, repair, adjust and test machines, devices, moving parts, and mechanical equipment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 1‑year work experience related to manual labor
- Perform manual labor for extended periods
- Understand oral and written instructions
- Operate or receive training on maintenance and construction equipment
- Lift a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively
- Work overtime, call back duty, and standby with forty‑five minute response times
- Recognize potential problems or failures
- Proficient use of ground maintenance equipment and hand tools preferred
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks
- State Issued Driver's license with good driving history required
- Current Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date
- Heavy physical work; lift up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting and carrying of objects over 100 pounds
- Considerable walking and standing; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing
- Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of equipment and vehicles
- Vision for reading gauges and written instruction; hearing for instructions and warning signals
- Primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust, odors, fumes
- Some work may be performed in trenches, confined spaces, high traffic areas
- Operate common utility maintenance equipment and vehicles
- Occasional use of personal equipment (vehicle, cell phone, tools) in course of employment
- During local emergency or disaster declared by City, all employees may be required to work as essential personnel
