Position Overview

Plumber performs skilled plumbing, installation, and repair work on plumbing systems in city‑owned or city‑leased buildings and facilities.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform new installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of both residential and commercial plumbing systems
  • Monitor and inspect facilities, equipment and systems to determine compliance with State standards and the need for repair or upgrade
  • Review blueprints and construction plans
  • Monitor and oversee contract work for compliance to established standards
  • Analyze malfunctions and make repairs or adjustments
  • Coordinate, monitor and/or perform installation of materials, fixtures, equipment and systems
  • Operate specialized tools and equipment; operate computerized monitoring and testing as well as reporting systems
  • Schedule and perform detailed plumbing preventive maintenance tasks
  • Schedule, test and certify backflow prevention devices
  • Maintain records of operation, maintenance and repairs
  • Prepare related reports; maintain inventory of parts and supplies
  • Train subordinate employees as appropriate
  • May act as lead worker
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • At least 5 years progressively responsible plumbing experience
Knowledge

Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment and systems related to the assigned function.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicable safety practices and procedures
  • Current State Plumbing and Building codes
  • Hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry
  • City policy, procedures and division work guidelines
  • Mold identification and awareness
  • Asbestos identification and awareness
Skills
  • Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to assigned function
  • Skill in the use of single person lifts and fall protection procedures
  • Skill in monitoring the work of assigned personnel through apprentices
Course Training (Proficient Level)
  • Advance Plumbing Training Course
  • OSHA 10‑hour General Industry Training certificate
  • OSHA 30‑hour General Industry Training certificate
  • Basic MS WORD Software completion
Abilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Read and comply with blueprints, diagrams, schematics, manuals and specifications
  • Maintain accurate records, logs and reports
  • Train and instruct other employees
  • Perform physical activities common to building maintenance work
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and direct the work of others
  • Ability to work in unpleasant and sometimes hazardous conditions
  • Organize and schedule resources, materials and equipment to accomplish tasks

Licenses And Certifications Required
  • Colorado Driver’s License
  • State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Plumbing License
  • Cross‑Connection and Backflow License
Working Conditions Essential Personnel

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands
  • Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 100 pounds
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
