Position: Electrician WG-2805-10

Summary

The position is located in the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System, within the Maintenance & Repair Section of Facilities Management. The incumbent will install, modify, maintain, test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution systems, wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment in healthcare, industrial, and office settings using electrical principles, materials, and safety standards.

Duties

Install, modify, and maintain complete electrical systems and equipment in a healthcare and research environment.

Perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic systems, including high‑voltage equipment, transformers, motor control centers, photovoltaic power systems, inverters, generators, control circuits, substations, switch gear, and relay protection devices.

Operate technical test equipment such as high‑voltage output testers, fault‑finding equipment, relay sets, volt‑ampere meters, and power‑factor meters.

Install conduit, fittings, boxes, supports, and devices; modify circuits to accommodate new or emergency loads.

Conduct work on electrical equipment ranging from 24 V up to 13,800 V, including EPSS, SEPS, TVSS, and vacuum/air circuit breakers.

Read and interpret VA Master Specifications, National Electrical Code, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to solve operational problems.

Physical work requires moderate exertion, lifting up to 40 lb, climbing ladders, operating in confined spaces, working outdoors in varied weather, and exposure to arc flash and electrical hazards.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship is required; non‑citizens may be considered only if qualified citizens are unavailable.

A current, valid state‑issued driver’s license and a current licensed journeyman electrician in any U.S. state are required.

Applicants must be eligible for a background investigation, drug screening, and selective service registration (for males born after 12/31/1959). All applicants will complete an onboarding process.

Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position, supported by detailed experience descriptions.

Experience in installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution systems, including work on high‑voltage equipment up to 13.8 kV.

Experience with testing and troubleshooting on high‑voltage systems, use of technical test equipment, and interpretation of electrical codes and specifications.

Ability to work under the physical and environmental conditions described above.

Eligible for credit toward experience gained through paid, volunteer, or unpaid work, with a full year counted as 35‑40 hours per week. Times must be specified on the resume.
