Job SummaryTransport, safely and expediently, students to and from home, between schools, and on district-sponsored trips. Monitor students at designated stops to ensure safe passage on and off the bus. When not actively operating a school bus or performing transportation‑related duties, employees in this position may be assigned to assist with administrative or clerical tasks as needed or directed by the department supervisor.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. JobTask Descriptions
- 1. Drive bus to transport students over assigned routes safely and efficiently. After completing the designated bus route, perform administrative tasks in the office for any remaining scheduled work hours. (Daily – 50%)
- 2. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. (Daily – 5%)
- 3. Reports delays or accidents. (Daily – 5%)
- 4. Performs pre/post‑trip inspections to ensure safe operations of vehicle and/or bus by visually or tactically inspecting all components of vehicle interior and exterior according to Colorado Department of Education Standards. (Daily – 5%)
- 5. Loads and unloads students at various stops and destinations. (Daily – 5%)
- 6. Performs student discipline activities before, during, and after assigned routes, if necessary. (Daily – 5%)
- 7. Communicates information and procedures to students, office personnel and/or others in the event of an emergency. (Daily – 5%)
- 8. Waits at assigned locations between routes and/or between student pick‑ups or at other activities/functions while waiting for students. (Daily – 5%)
- 9. Performs evacuation drills as required by the Colorado Department of Education and transportation department procedures. (Annually – 5%)
- 10. Participates in training activities, as required. (Annually – 5%)
- 11. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (Daily – 5%)

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- No professional work experience required
- Colorado driver’s license
- Commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B with both a "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsement
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self‑Insurance Pool
- Must pass Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Colorado Department of Education screenings
- Must have a clear/clean Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle record within the past three (3) years
- Must have an original Motor Vehicle Record dated within the past 30 days. Applications will not be considered for licenses that have been suspended/revoked within the past three years, have had a probationary license for less than three years, or who have been convicted of DUI or DWAI within the past three years.
