JOB SUMMARY

Supervise all bus drivers and bus assistants. Ensure all routes and trips are completed on time with available resources. Review GPS reports and onboard video cameras. Enforce progressive discipline as needed. Complete employee evaluations. Administer the student management program. Represent the district at meetings, conferences, and seminars in a professional manner. Required to obtain a Class B CDL License with P and S endorsements, and transport students to and from school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. The approximation of frequencies and time allocation percentages are flexible and subject to the requirements of the organization.

  • Supervise, assign work to ensure coverage, and evaluate all assigned bus drivers and bus assistants. Provide work direction, identify and resolve transportation issues, schedule retraining, and problem‑solve route and personnel issues. Provide customer service to transportation employees. Enforce progressive discipline as needed and complete employee evaluations. Administer the student management program. Initiate protocols to ensure students are being transported safely. Monitor all aspects of bus driver and bus assistant performance, including spot checking for pre‑trips and post‑trips, appropriate use of specialized equipment, and driving ability.

    Respond to accident scenes, assess damage and injuries, and implement protocols when deemed necessary. Transport students to and from school daily.
  • Monitor ongoing two‑way radio and telephone communications with transportation, district security, dispatch, and school personnel as required. Meet with transportation employees, students, parents/guardians, school employees, and district administrators, to review onboard video.
  • Use specialized software programs to compile department forms, detailed maps, graphic and other operational paperwork. Utilize GPS tracking system and vehicle computerized tablets for turn‑by‑turn directions.
  • Implement emergency procedures (e.g., snow days, accidents, early school closure, emergency closures) when necessary. Share in after‑hours, weekend and holiday on‑call responsibilities.
  • Represent the district at meetings, conferences, and seminars in a professional manner. Meet with personnel within other transportation departments within the state for problem solving, coordination, and implementation of new rules and regulations. Attend in‑district bus driver meetings at schools and represent bus driver and bus assistant interests and concerns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience
  • Required to obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, with a P and S Endorsement within (90) days to maintain this position
