Loca l lumberyard is looking for a Dispatcher to schedule and monitor delivery loads. The Dispatcher is highly interactive with Contractors, Sales, Drivers and Yard Staff.
Strong communication and organization is a must! Prior lumber and building material experience is helpful but not necessary.
Must ensure accurate materials are delivered in a timely manner and provide proper direction for customer jobsites.
The Dispatcher plays a critical role in coordinating and managing the efficient movement of vehicles and goods within a fleet, ensuring timely deliveries and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position requires overseeing daily dispatch operations, maintaining clear communication with drivers and sales, and responding promptly to any logistical challenges that arise. The Dispatcher is responsible for monitoring fleet maintenance schedules and ensuring that all vehicles meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to guarantee safety and operational readiness.
Working in a fast-paced environment, the Dispatcher must prioritize tasks effectively while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Ultimately, this role ensures seamless logistics management that supports the overall success and reliability of the transportation operations.
- Proven experience in dispatching or logistics management within the transportation industry or related experience.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, including answering phones and coordinating with diverse teams.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with fleet management software.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain peripheral vision and situational awareness in a dynamic work environment.
- Coordinate and schedule daily dispatch operations to optimize fleet utilization and delivery timelines.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, sales, and management to provide updates and resolve issues promptly.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies related to fleet operations and driver safety.
- Manage fleet maintenance schedules and coordinate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and ensure vehicle safety.
- Answer incoming calls and handle inquiries related to dispatch, logistics, and fleet status in a professional and timely manner.
The required skills such as dispatching and fleet management are essential for organizing and directing vehicle movements efficiently to meet delivery schedules. Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance ensures that all operations adhere to legal safety standards, reducing risk and liability. Peripheral vision and situational awareness help the Dispatcher monitor multiple activities simultaneously, enabling quick responses to changing conditions. Working in a fast-paced environment demands strong multitasking abilities and effective communication, especially when answering phones and coordinating with drivers and maintenance teams.
Preferred skills like logistics management enhance the Dispatcher’s capability to optimize operations and maintain high standards of safety and efficiency.
Regularly lift/carry/move up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lift/carry/move 50 lbs. for moderate distances.
