We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our Accounting team. In this role, you will support the day-to-day accounting operations of the firm, including project accounting, billing, and project cooridination. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated accounting professional to grow within the AEC industry.
Responsibilities- Process and review subconsultant invoices and accounts receivable transactions in a timely manner.
- Support project accounting functions including labor cost tracking, project billing, and WIP (work-in-progress) schedule preparation.
- Assist in the preparation of client invoices, including project progress narratives, in accordance with contract terms (lump sum, T&M, and cost-plus).
- Support annual project-related audit processes.
- Monitor project budgets and flag variances to project managers and the Controller.
- Assist with mileage log and expense report review as needed.
- Maintain comprehensive project files including contracts, change orders, submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
- Assist with processing subcontractor agreements, certificates of insurance, and consultant invoices.
- Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies as directed by the PM.
- Track project budgets, hours, and expenses; prepare monthly progress reports for PM review.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience; AEC, professional services, or project-based industry experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of GAAP.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Deltek Ajera or similar AEC ERP preferred).
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Experience with multi-phase project billing and contract compliance.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage and government contracting requirements.
- Experience with Deltek Ajera or a similar AEC-specific ERP system.
