Job Description
Our client is looking for an experienced Certified Payroll Specialist who understands the importance of getting payroll right the first time. This is a high-impact role for a payroll professional who enjoys certified payroll, prevailing wage compliance, union reporting, and the challenge of supporting complex, multi-state project work.
Pay$29.00 - $35.00 per hour

In this role, you will serve as a trusted payroll resource for project teams and internal stakeholders. You will manage detailed payroll and compliance work that directly supports employee confidence, project accuracy, and ability to meet certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements.

- Own accurate and timely payroll processing for employees working across multiple states, including union and non-union employees.
- Prepare, review, and submit certified payroll reports and related compliance documentation for public works, prevailing wage, and project-based work.
- Review time, job classifications, wage rates, fringe benefits, deductions, and hours worked to identify issues before payroll is finalized.
- Partner with project teams, field supervisors, accounting, and internal departments to resolve payroll questions and confirm labor information.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, reporting requests, and process improvements related to payroll and labor reporting.
- Provide responsive, professional support to employees and internal stakeholders while protecting confidential payroll information.
- Perform other payroll and administrative duties as assigned.
- Three or more years of certified payroll, prevailing wage, construction, public works, or union payroll experience strongly preferred.
- Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands‑on payroll experience will be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of certified payroll reporting, wage classifications, fringe benefit calculations, payroll deductions, and payroll compliance requirements.
- Experience with multi-state payroll, union benefit reporting, garnishments, tax levies, and payroll adjustments.
- Comfortable working in payroll systems, time‑keeping systems, reporting portals, and Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, organization, follow‑through, and ability to meet recurring payroll deadlines.
- Professional communication skills with the ability to work effectively with field teams, project managers, accounting, HR, and employees.
- Ability to work occasional overtime or limited holiday weekend hours as business needs require.
- Experience preparing certified payroll reports for prevailing wage, public works, utility, construction, infrastructure, or project-based environments.
- Experience using payroll systems, time‑keeping systems, and labor compliance reporting platforms.
- Union payroll, union benefit reporting, and multi‑jurisdiction payroll experience.
- Interest in becoming a subject‑matter resource for certified payroll and payroll compliance processes.
