About the role Appian Corporation is seeking an experienced Program Manager to take charge of the U.S. Coast Guard's Appian Modernization Program. This role is essential for ensuring that Appian's initiatives align with the operational objectives of the Coast Guard, facilitating the successful execution of digital transformation projects.

What you'll do
  • Lead the transition from isolated Appian projects to a unified modernization program that emphasizes shared governance and delivery priorities.
  • Develop and refine an Appian Center of Excellence aimed at managing project intake, prioritization, architecture reviews, and promoting platform adoption across various Coast Guard initiatives.
  • Formulate a strategic roadmap for Appian solutions that cater to acquisition management, human resources, case management, and future modernization efforts in line with Coast Guard goals.
  • Work closely with Coast Guard stakeholders to convert operational needs into scalable workflow and decision‑support solutions.
  • Oversee cross‑functional teams, including Appian developers, architects, business analysts, quality assurance specialists, scrum leads, and integration resources.
  • Create a reusable delivery model that includes design standards, component libraries, integration patterns, release controls, and performance metrics to enhance efficiency.
  • Lead program‑level risk management initiatives that address legacy dependencies, governance requirements, security approvals, and the adoption of enterprise changes.
  • Facilitate executive communications, governance reviews, roadmap planning, and value reporting that are linked to mission outcomes.
  • Supervise advisory work streams that aim to improve the platform portfolio, focusing on process enhancement, modernization planning, and stakeholder alignment.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in IT program management, digital transformation, or enterprise platform delivery.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading IT initiatives or workflow application programs within the U.S. Coast Guard or the Department of Homeland Security in a complex federal environment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience supporting the U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, or similar federal entities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of workflow modernization, case management, integration delivery, and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience managing portfolios that integrate software delivery with advisory support services.
  • Familiarity with operational domains such as acquisition management, workforce systems, and mission support processes is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and connect delivery outcomes to overarching mission objectives.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; certifications in Scrum, SAFe, or Appian are highly desirable.
Nice to have
  • Experience in consolidating multiple projects into a well‑structured program.
  • Proven success in establishing or managing a low‑code Center of Excellence.
  • Ability to effectively engage with both executive leadership and delivery teams.
  • Knowledge of integrating Appian with enterprise systems and APIs.
  • Experience in managing ongoing delivery while identifying future opportunities for growth.
  • Familiarity with federal acquisition processes and governance related to enterprise operations.

The salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $300,000 USD, with the possibility of a government clearance differential. The actual compensation will be influenced by various factors, including relevant experience and qualifications.
