ITINERANT MUSIC TEACHER – FTE: 1.0

Effective:
Immediately – open ended. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

School Allocation
  • 59% St. Kateri Tekakwitha CES
  • 21% St. Matthew CES
  • 20% St. Patrick, Markham CES
Compensation
  • Daily Rate for Unqualified – $280.41
  • Daily Rate for Qualified Teachers (dependent upon placement on the salary grid) – $289.19 – $619.73
  • Rates are per full-day worked.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, teach, assess, and evaluate the music program for grades FDK – 8.
  • Deliver music curriculum as approved by the Board.
  • Travel to various schools throughout the Board.
  • Teach drama/dance if included in the schedule.
Required Qualifications
  • Primary and/or Junior and/or Intermediate Division qualifications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic or additional qualifications in music or a degree in music (bachelor's or master's).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of music theory and vocal ability.
  • Ability to teach vocal music, recorders, and percussion instruments.
  • Demonstrated ability to read music.
  • Accreditation in Orff (minimum Level
    1) or Kodaly (as required).
  • Background in music (degree in music education or other music accreditation).
  • Junior and/or intermediate qualifications to teach instrumental music.
  • Ability to demonstrate and articulate the connections between the music program and literacy and numeracy skill development.
  • Experience teaching music to junior and/or intermediate students.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Ministry expectations for music grades FDK – 8.
