Position: Elementary 1 Montessori Teacher

Fox Valley Montessori School (FVMS) serves children ages 15 months to 12 years on the west side of Aurora, Illinois, just minutes from I-88. Rooted in Maria Montessori’s philosophy, FVMS emphasizes experiential, independently focused learning that nurtures a strong sense of self and responsibility to others. Role Description

The Elementary 1 Montessori Teacher will lead a classroom of elementary-aged students in a Montessori environment, guiding learners through individualized and small-group lessons across core subject areas. This full-time, on-site role in Aurora, IL includes preparing and maintaining an organized, child-centered classroom, observing students to inform instruction, and fostering independence, curiosity, and social-emotional growth. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues and support staff to align curriculum, share best practices, and ensure consistency in Montessori pedagogy.

Responsibilities also include regular communication with families, participation in school events, monitoring student progress, and completing required documentation and assessments. The Elementary 1 Montessori Teacher will contribute to the broader school community by modeling Montessori values of respect, empathy, and lifelong learning.

Qualifications
  • Montessori training and certification at the Elementary level (AMS, AMI, or equivalent), or strong commitment to complete Montessori certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; valid or eligible state teaching credential is preferred.
  • Ability to design and implement developmentally appropriate, student-centered learning experiences that support independence, collaboration, and critical thinking.
  • Strong classroom management and community-building skills, with a focus on respectful communication and positive guidance.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to engage with students, colleagues, and families in a professional and culturally responsive manner.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to maintain classroom materials, track student progress, and meet reporting requirements.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to creating a safe, welcoming environment for learners of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development, school meetings, and community events.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of an active classroom environment, including moving between floor-level and table-level work and supervising indoor and outdoor activities.
