Essential Functions- Develop, coordinate and implement individual vision intervention plans that support the IEP goals and objectives using an integrated service model.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations using a variety of assessment tools and resources; develop written evaluations.
- May assist in the planning and developing of training programs and in‑services, as well as with presentation.
- Remed, design and assist in the procurement of adaptive equipment, assistive technology and augmentative/alternative communication systems necessary for students to meet IEP goals.
- May assist in planning, developing, and presenting in‑service training programs; instruct in techniques.
The Teacher of the Visually Impaired provides specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, helping them develop academic and adaptive skills. Responsibilities include assessing students' needs, designing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), and collaborating with educators and families to create inclusive learning environments.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred).
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
- Experience working with students who are visually impaired or blind.
- Knowledge of braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive teaching strategies.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to assess students' visual abilities and educational needs accurately.
- Proficiency in adapting curriculum materials and using specialized equipment.
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
- Clear background check and fingerprinting.
- Adherence to state and federal special education laws and regulations.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and training in visual impairment education.
- Ability to provide direct instruction, consultation, and support to students, educators, and families.
