The substitute teacher is considered a ministerial employee by their role working in a Catholic School and agrees to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. They support the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives and convey its message and mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times.
- Create a faith‑focused learning environment within the classroom and school.
- Facilitate student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills.
- Implement the absent teacher's written plans with fidelity, document student progress, activities, and outcomes as directed by the teacher.
- Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher.
- Create a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.
- Serve as a model of the Catholic faith in words, actions, speech, dress, and demeanor.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
- Differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles and needs.
- Conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Ensure students conduct conforms with the school's standards and Diocesan policies.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Utilize available technology to enhance instruction.
- Supervise students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including transportation, arrival, and dismissal.
- Seek advice and counsel of the principal and fellow educators when dealing with classroom issues.
- Use standard office equipment, Microsoft Office, and other technology to enhance lessons.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
- Hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Illinois Substitute License, or a valid out‑of‑state certificate from a state with Illinois reciprocity.
- Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Practicing Catholic preferred; must be able to teach religion or theology courses.
- Previous successful teaching experience in elementary or secondary education preferred.
- Experience in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students preferred.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills essential.
- Knowledge of Catholic elementary school curriculum and concepts.
Part‑time, unbenefited position. Substitute teachers will work as needed or on a schedule developed by the principal.
Salary RangeDetermined at the local level – DAILY RATE.

Physical RequirementsFrequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, feel with hands, reaching with arms; ability to walk up or down stairs; lift up to 20–30 pounds. Work in standard office and school environments; may work outdoors during student activities.
