The Substitute Teacher is considered a ministerial employee by their role working in a Catholic School and agrees to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. Substitutes convey the Catholic Church’s message in their words, actions, dress, and demeanor.

• Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times.
• Create a faith‑focused learning environment within the classroom.
• Implement the absent teacher’s written plans with fidelity, document student progress, activities, and outcomes.
• Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher.
• Utilize available technology to enhance lessons.
• Differentiate instruction to address specific educational needs of individual students.
• Create a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.

• Model the Catholic faith in words, actions, speech, dress, and demeanor.
• Develop and administer school curriculum consistent with the teacher’s written plans.
• Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
• Differentiates instruction based on student learning styles and needs.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning.
• Provide individual and small group instruction as needed.
• Instruct students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws.
• Ensure student conduct conforms with school standards and Diocesan policies.
• Maintain a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities, transportation, arrival, and dismissal.
• Seek advice from the principal and fellow educators as appropriate.
• Additional duties as assigned by school administration.

• May be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, and work outdoors during activities.
• Must be able to lift up to 20‑30 pounds if needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), a Substitute License, or a valid out‑of‑state certificate with reciprocity.
• Previous teaching experience in elementary or middle school grades (Preschool‑Grade 8) preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Practicing Catholic (preferred; required for religion teachers).

• Short‑term Substitute: $110 per day.
