Long‑Term Substitute Teacher – 2nd Grade Bilingual (Pleasant Acres Elementary) Job Summary
Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long‑Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and perform related duties as required. This is a full‑time position for the defined dates listed below and includes qualifying for benefits for that time period.
General Qualifications- Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Preferred previous substitute experience at Rantoul City Schools
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Ability to provide instruction in Spanish for the entire school day
- Fill long‑term substitute teaching needs, including lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing progress of student work (grades)
- Attend parent‑teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed for the position
- Communicate with parents as needed after consulting with administration (e.g., provide good news and/or information on academic or behavior)
- Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings
- When available, follow lesson plans and instructions provided by teachers to provide instruction to assigned students; if plans are not available use appropriate resources to create plans
- Establish positive learning expectation standards for all students
- Maintain accurate student attendance records
- Encourage student growth in self‑discipline and positive self‑concept; ensure fairness in teacher‑student relationships and exhibit understanding and respect for students
- Manage classroom organization; clean and organize the rooms at the end of the day
- Provide communication to the teacher at the end of the day, and provide a rating to administration of the lesson plans and instructions left by the teacher
- Modify instruction to meet student needs; work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff members, and community representatives in providing an appropriate educational program; understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils
- Apply contemporary principles and practices of teaching; good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; exercise sound and professional judgment
- Follow district procedures for reporting self‑absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents, colleagues, administration, and all other members of the educational community
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Use web‑based programs, e‑mail, and technology (laptop, Smart board, etc.) effectively
- Indoor classrooms and school environment; exposure to student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass, and possible communicable diseases
- Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips; exposure to varying temperatures (hot, warm, cool, cold) and mowed grass
- Regular work attendance required
- $243.36 per day for length of assignment
- Sick/personal leave: accrues 1 sick day and 0.25 personal day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked
The duration of the position may vary depending on the ability of the District to fill the position with a qualified teacher. In some cases, the duration will be defined. This position will begin on August 12, 2026. The District is required to hire a fully‑certified teacher for the vacancy when possible, and for unfilled vacancies the District will keep the position posted until a fully‑certified teacher is hired, at which time the long‑term substitute position will terminate.
To the extent possible, the District will provide advanced notice to this substitute teacher filling the position.
