STEM Program Facilitator

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking enthusiastic college students majoring in education or early-career teachers (within their first few years of teaching) to join our team as STEM Program Facilitators. Facilitators will teach hands-on, inquiry-based STEM programming to elementary and middle school students on weekends and/or evenings at IMSA's campus.

This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in STEM education, enhance their teaching skills, and make a positive impact on students' learning experiences. A training session will be provided before the start of each program to familiarize facilitators with the curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Teach or co-teach IMSA-created STEM programming to K-8 students on weekends and/or evenings.
  • Participate in a mandatory training session to learn the curriculum and program details.
  • Prepare materials and classroom setups for Saturday sessions.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages inquiry, exploration, and curiosity.
  • Ensure student safety during program activities, including during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Provide support to students as a classroom facilitator, guiding them through activities and promoting engagement.
  • Assist with the clean-up and storage of materials at the end of each session.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be a college student majoring in education or a STEM-related field, or an early-career teacher (within the first few years of teaching).
  • Passion for STEM education and a desire to inspire young learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and engaging classroom environment.
  • Availability on weekends and/or evenings

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. This is a temporary position for the 26-27 school year. Compensation is $15.00/hr for those without a Bachelor's Degree and $22.00/hr for those with a Bachelor's Degree.
