The Support Teacher plays an important role in helping our school operate smoothly each day. This is a flexible, hands-on position designed for someone who enjoys variety, works well as part of a team, and is willing to step in wherever support is needed. The Support Teacher will assist in classrooms, provide coverage for teachers, support student bus arrival and dismissal, help with kitchen responsibilities, and complete other school-wide tasks.

Above all, this individual should be dependable, adaptable, positive, and willing to jump in wherever the day takes them.

Classroom & Teacher Support

• Provide classroom coverage as needed throughout the school day, including during teacher breaks, planning time, meetings, absences, and other coverage needs.
• Assist teachers with classroom routines, transitions, meals, diapering/toileting, rest time, outdoor play, and other daily activities.
• Engage positively and actively with students while maintaining appropriate supervision at all times.
• Help classrooms prepare materials, organize supplies, clean and reset spaces, and complete other tasks that set teachers and students up for success.

Student Transportation & Bus Stop Support

• Assist with school bus arrival and dismissal by walking students to and from a nearby neighborhood bus stop.
• Safely supervise students while walking between the school and designated bus stop.
• Ensure accurate attendance and complete required name-to-face and transportation procedures.
• Maintain active supervision and follow all school safety procedures throughout the entire transition.

Kitchen & Meal Support

• Assist in the kitchen as needed with meal and snack preparation, serving, organization, and cleanup.
• Help prepare and distribute classroom food carts and supplies.
• Assist with dishes, kitchen sanitation, and maintaining a clean and organized food-service environment.
• Follow all applicable food safety, allergy, sanitation, and school procedures.

School-Wide Operational Support

• Complete school laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and distributing classroom linens and other items.
• Restock classrooms and common areas with necessary supplies.
• Support arrival, dismissal, and other high-traffic times as needed.
• Complete other duties and miscellaneous tasks as assigned to support the smooth daily operation of the school.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience working with children preferred.
• Must meet all applicable DCFS licensing, background check, health, and training requirements.
• Must be able to safely perform the physical responsibilities associated with working in an early childhood environment, including walking students to and from a nearby bus stop.

The Heart of the Role Our Support Teacher is a "wherever needed" member of the team. Some days may be primarily spent supporting classrooms, while others may include walking students to the bus stop, jumping into the kitchen, tackling laundry, preparing materials, or helping leadership with an unexpected need. Success in this position means looking at the school as a whole and asking: "What can I do right now to help our students, teachers, and school have a successful day?"

Compensation: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
