Job Description
The Engineering Technician will support the design engineering team with project development activities, including soldering, testing, programming, assembly, and more. Our products include thermostats, smoke/CO/heat/gas detectors, and strobes.
Job Duties- Performs and coordinates product validation according to PQA, design engineer's direction and/or test procedures, product specifications and regulatory standards.
- Independently manages diverse workloads and is comfortable with escalating conflicting priorities.
- Prepares test reports, analyzes discrepancies and makes recommendations to PQA and design engineers for product performance.
- Conducts activities safely and in accordance with Resideo Safety requirements to protect associates, the public, and the environment.
- Takes necessary actions to stop work when an unsafe condition or action is identified.
- Assembles, configures, and programs devices to prepare prototypes for testing and validation activities.
- Executes experimental testing to evaluate prototype robustness and performance under external environmental stress conditions.
- 3+ years of Electrical, Electronics, or Electromechanical technical experience.
- 3+ years of experience with product design testing.
- 3+ years of experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, hand tools, calipers, micrometers, environmental chambers, ESD simulators, surge equipment, etc.
- 3+ years of experience using a microscope, modifying prototypes, soldering components, cutting/jumping traces.
- Familiarity with electrical components and competency in reading schematics.
- Ability to set up various life tests following wiring diagrams using appropriate wire gauge, splicing equipment, wire‑nut sizes, and proper use of power tools.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs and climb ladders when necessary.
- Proficient computer skills;
Office 365, JIRA, and product development systems. - Ability to work with multiple designers and balance competing priorities.
- Desirable experience running tests such as lightning, oscillatory transients, and electrical‑fast transients.
- Experience with line‑voltage product testing (120‑240 V) is desired.
- Experience with RF product testing for design validation is a plus.
- Good understanding of both mechanical and electronics/electrical test equipment.
- Knowledge of ESD considerations when handling electronics.
- Ability to communicate experimental test results using Office tools, Outlook, photos, etc.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, exercising independent action and decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, follow direction, and communicate effectively within a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
